Becoming an Effective and Viable Coach is more than Just Knowing how to be Well

There are different types of opportunities for working as a wellness coach whether self-employed or otherwise. There are similarities to other types of coaching and may be public misconceptions about what it entails, but it is different.

There are many emerging opportunities though as awareness of what wellness coaching has to offer spreads.
Before working with any client though, there are a number of practical issues to consider.

Where and How
You may decide to work online or face to face (or both). You need to decide what works best for you and your clients.

Safety
You might be going to people’s homes. They might be coming to yours, or an office. You might be meeting them in a coffee shop or restaurant. Your clients are strangers though, so take the same care that you would when meeting a stranger in any other context.

Insurance
Ensure you have suitable insurance. If you are working in your own office or home, you may require public liability insurance and so on.
You may require insurance as you are advising people on their health and wellness.

Data Storage
You will be collecting information from your clients. There are both practical and legal considerations with handling of information.

Fees
How much you charge the client is something that you need to seriously consider. You need to make the client aware of how much you are charging, time and anything else you are charging for. How will you want to be paid? Upfront before a session? Will you send an invoice afterwards? What about cancellation charges? For example, some coaches may say if you do not cancel within 24 hours of the session, you have to pay anyway and so on.  Do not be embarrassed about discussing the fees.  If you want to be paid, you have to be clear to your clients.

Being a Successful Wellness Coach is More Involved than Just Giving Good Advice.
