Birds are fascinating creatures.

Here are some facts you may not know:

  • Some birds sing at such a high pitch that humans are not able to hear them.
  • Ravens can mimic most human sounds and speeches.
  • The bird’s skeleton weighs less than its feathers.
  • Some ducks sleep with one eye open.
  • On birds, it looks as though it is their knee bending backwards, but actually that is its ankle.
    Below the ankle is an extended foot bone that leads to the toes. The bird’s real knee is usually hidden underneath their feathers.
  • Pigeons were used to deliver the results in the Olympics in Ancient Greece.
  • Parrots can learn up to 100 words.
  • Birds are the last survivors of the dinosaur lineage.
  • Birds use colour and sound to communicate 
  • Some birds take short naps of 1  – 2 seconds when they are flying.
  • The most common species of bird is chickens.
