Amenity horticulture is a topic and profession that embraces a huge range of topics from the weekly cutting of lawns to caring for trees that are hundreds of years old. Professional gardeners are expected to know something about everything. However, we all have our own particular interests and specialisms.
This course gives students a knowledge of amenity horticulture (also known as decorative horticulture), plus the opportunity to go into one area in much more depth. For example, you may wish to raise your own plants for your clients, in which case the propagation elective would be very useful. Alternatively, you might want to learn how to design new gardens or how to fit new features into existing areas, in which case the landscaping elective would help you greatly.
Study Amenity Horticulture I and II, complete a 200 hour workplace project and choose one elective to complete the course.
Note that each module in the Qualification - Proficiency Award in Amenity Horticulture is a short course in its own right, and may be studied separately.
